FWF
FWF (Fair Wear Foundation)
FWF is a non profit organization, which focuses on the improvement of labour conditions for workers in the textile industry.
The Standard
The labour standard refers to companies, that produce readymade garments out of raw materials, as this is the most labour intensive process. FWF has developed a strong working codex, which is inspired by international Standards for Human and labour rights, set up by the ILO ( International Labour Organisation ) and UNO ( declaration on Human Rights )
The ethical codex takes care of following aspects:
- Free Choice of Labour – No forced labour
- No child labour
- Legally binding working contracts
- Collective Bargaining- & Freedom of Association
- Payment of a living wage
- No excessive working hours
The Verification
FWF operates on multiple levels to reach maximum efficiency. Apart from the social criteria at the manufacturing stage, buyers need to prove their implementation of the FWF guidelines. This means that companies that become a member of FWF are required to set up their own monitoring system for fair working conditions. In pursuance of their ethical requirements, buyers need to check their own suppliers and to take care that FWF standards are maintained in the factories.
Brandless & FWF
Brandless was a member in the young designer programm until 31/12/2016. At the end of 2016 Fair Wear Foundation has closed the Young designer Programm, but Brandless still focuses on ethical and fair manufacturing and uses the same guidelines. We visit our main supplier once a year to take care of ethical issues and to work on the improvement of labour conditions.
