The Standard
marks garments that are made of fair trade cotton, produced in accordance to social and ecological guidelines which are guided through Fair Trade International.
Fair Trade was originally founded for the cultivation of coffee, and is nowadays used for different soft commodities like Bananas, Sugar Tea and more on.
The needs for Fair Trade are divided into social, ecological and economical specifications. Due to the FT standard ethical requirements refer to all steps of the cultivation and treatment of cotton. The certification is done by FLO Cert and covers the most important regulations to ensure (ethical) fair working conditions. All parties that are involved in the manufacturing process of a certified product are controlled , which provides a complete insight in the supply chain for the end consumer.
The realisation
Fairtrade ensures that farmers receive a minimum price for their cotton, which is defined regionally. If the regional price is below the global one, farmers will receive the price difference. Apart from the pricing model, Farmer associations receive a fair trade reward, which is used for common projects.
Fairtrade & Brandless
As the usage of the Fairtrade logo requires a visible trade mark of the , we can´t become a license partner of Fair Trade Austria at the current stage. We work on the improvement of our own collection for retailers to make it suitable for a cooperation with Fair Trade. We will update you on relevant news of this issue.
